Abstract
Backgrounds: Family caregivers of patients with burn are in a state of crisis and undergo multiple stressors during hospitalization. However, there is a few research that identifies family caregiver¡¯s burden, provider support and educational needs. This descriptive study was conducted to explore the perceived levels of burden, provider support and educational needs of caregivers and their relationship.

Methods: A convenience sample of 72 family members of burn patients completed Caregiving Consequences Inventory, the Patient Reactions Assessment and Educational Needs Questionnaire.

Results: The average score for caregiver burden was moderate, total provider support was moderate. The top identified educational needs were post burn skin care and complication management. Correlation analysis revealed that as caregiver burden increased, family educational needs also increased, and as communicational support from provider decreased, caregiver burden increased.

Conclusions: These findings suggest that support program described by caregivers of burn patients as helpful included the provision of information concerning post burn management and provider support to cope caregiver burden. (Journal of Korean Burn Society 2007;10:95-99)
